Goodfellow AFB is located in the heart of W. Texas in an Oasis of a town called San Angelo . Nestled between interstates 20 and 10, off HW 277, San Angelo is the choice recreational area for folks within a 150-mile radius. Featuring 3 pristine lakes, a winding river through this historic town, and some fantastic eateries, this area is not soon forgotten.

The talented staff within Goodfellow Outdoor Recreation maximizes every potential recreational opportunity for the young and not so young alike. With programs ranging from sailing and windsurfing lessons, camping trips, fishing derbies, International Armed Forces Chili Cook-Off, to the Annual “Polar Bear Swim”, there is certainly a facility or activity that everyone can enjoy.

Camping/Recreational Lodging:
Goodfellow Recreation Camp located on Lake Nasworthy or 1950 S. Concho, has lots of room available for tent camping. Support facilities include a bath house, laundry room, and over 14 covered picnic pavilions complete with electricity and BBQ grills.

 Hours of Operation:
Seasonal: September – October: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., Closed Wednesday
November – March: 10 a.m.– 5 p.m.  Closed Tuesday & Wednesday
April & May: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.  Closed Wednesday
June – August: 10 a.m.– 9 p.m.

While the office is closed on certain days, tent campers and picnickers are more than welcome to visit. The camp has a host available to assist with any questions or concerns

Equipment Rental/Loan
Located on Goodfellow, Bldg. 736, this section has almost everything available that one could possibly need, items ranging from camping trailers, mountain bikes, lawn mowers, to an inflatable bouncy tiger.

Sat 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

FamCamp
The FAM Camp is located at the same area of the Off Base Recreational Site, Lake Nasworthy . With 20 full hook ups, all having 30 AMP service, water, and sewage, Goodfellow FAM Camp is absolutely beautiful. With over 15 acres to walk your pet, and 500 yards of lakeshore, this area is not a place you’ll ever want to leave.

Swimming Pools Goodfellow is fortunate to have 3 pools available, which are guaranteed to provide hours of enjoyment for the entire family.

China Beach Pool, which is located on-base, is one of the first in the Air Force to have zero entry, and maximum depth of 4 ft. Featuring two water toys, this pool is ideal for the family with small children. In addition, the facility has a small training pool, which is perfect for teaching swim lessons.

McGarr Pool:
Located on base, McGarr Pool is a heated facility, which is open year-round. While this pool is fitness oriented from October – May, with programs ranging from water aerobics, to swim lessons, during the summer this pool features an awesome water slide that has proved many hours of enjoyment for kids of all ages.

Hours of operation: October – May: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.  Closed Saturday and Sunday
June – September: 11 a.m.– 7 p.m.  Closed Monday

Recreation CampPool: Featuring a water slide, this is the choice facility for pool parties. Located at the Recreation Camp, many of the campers, RV’ers, and base housing residents take advantage of the cool water in the hot Texas heat.

Friday & Saturday: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Sunday, Monday, & Thursday: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Also nearby is Ft. McKavett State Historical park.

For fishing information on Lake Nasworthy where Goodfellow has a FamCamp, swimming pool and off-base recreation area see

San Angelo State Park is nearby. About 300 miles southwest in the Davis Mountains you’ll find the McDonald observatory. Or visit Indian Lodge State Park and travel the 72 mile scenic route seeing the Marfa lights and the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute.
