Camp Bullis
Hours/Days of Operation:
            Monday & Friday:  8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

            Hours of Operation may vary during hunting season.

Hunting at Camp Bullis is open to all DOD ID card holders; however, active duty military personnel have priority.  A Texas state hunting license and a Camp Bullis hunting permit are required to hunt.  The facility includes 125 rifle-hunting stands, 17 turkey-hunting blinds, 20 archery-hunting areas, 15 dove-hunting areas, RV storage lot and hunting lodge.  The lodge can be rented for unit parties or group get-togethers.

Another highlight is the pay-as-you-go catfish pond.  The pond is restocked in March and June with 3 to 5 pound channel catfish.  A fishing license is not required.  There is no daily fee.  The pond is open on Saturday and Sunday, March through September. 

Camp Bullis also features a Sportsman’s Range where shooters can fire their personal firearms.  Call prior to arrival as firearms must be registered.  The range is open Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. October through May and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. June through September.

Location:  From 410 West to NW Military (Castle Hills exit).  Take a right onto NW Military to entrance of Camp Bullis.  Turn right at the flag pole.  Outdoor Recreation Center is ¼ mile down (past the second gate) at New Lewis Valley Rd. and Bullis Rd.

Canyon Lake
Hours/Days of Operation:
            March 1 – September 30:           Sunday – Thursday: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
                                                            Friday – Saturday: 8 a.m. –  8 p.m.
            October 1 – February 28:            Monday – Sunday: 8a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The Recreation Area, located 20 miles North of Fort Sam Houston on the shores of Canyon Lake, offers a variety of activities which include: camping, fishing, boating, swimming, three covered picnic areas and two large covered pavilions, which are available for unit gatherings, picnics or parties.

Lodging:
● Three bedroom mobile homes: TV/VCR, microwave, dishes,  silverware, cooking utensils, linens, picnic table and BBQs.

● Screened cabanas: BBQs, picnic tables, ceiling fans, refrigerators,  microwaves, water and electricity.

● Primitive camping sites: 75 sites in woods or near the shore.
● RV Park: 33-sites with water and hook-ups.

Marina: A full-service marina provides water sport equipment at reasonable prices.  RV and boat storage is also available on-site.

Location:  I-35 North to exit 191.  Turn left on FM 306.  Drive approximately 16 miles to Canyon City; continue another 1.5 miles past the blinking light in Canyon City to Jacob Creek Park Road.  Turn left and the recreation area will be on your right approximately ¾ of a mile down.

Equestrian Center
Hours/Days of Operation:
            Monday – Friday: 8:15 a.m. – 5 p.m.
            Saturday – Sunday: 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The Fort Sam Houston Equestrian Center offers a variety of activities for patrons of all ages and skill levels including:

● Group and Private Lessons: Instruction is given in English, Western and Jumping for ages 7 years and older.  Group, Semi-Private or Private lessons are available.

● Boarding: Multiple plans are available to meet your needs.  Call or visit the center for details. 

● Pony Rides: For children ages 6 years and under.  Walk your children on our horses around the facility for only $5 per child.  Pony rides are offered Sat. and Sun. from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

● Trail Rides: One-hour trail rides are offered every Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.  Reservations are required and can be made in person or  by phone.

● Summer and Spring Youth Camps: Youth aged 7 – 18 years learn proper riding form and horse care.

Horse Shows: Open horse shows are held throughout the year to give riders a chance to display their talents.

● Parties: The Equestrian Center’s spacious lighted, covered deck is available for birthday or organizational day celebrations Trail rides and pony rides can be arranged for your special events.

Outdoor Recreation/Equipment Center
Hours/Days of Operation:
            Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

RV Storage Lot: Fort Sam Houston has 203 RV Storage spots.  Sizes range from small (10 ft. or less) at $50 a quarter; medium (10 ft. – 25 ft.) at $65 a quarter; and large (over 25 ft.) at $75 a quarter.  Active duty living on post have priority.

POV Resale Lot/Used Care Display Lot (Lemon Lot): Permits for the used car display lot can be purchased through the Outdoor Equipment Center.  A military ID card, current vehicle registration and Texas proof of insurance are required for all vehicles.  Fees are $10 for the first month, $20 for the second month and $40 for the third month.

Archery Range: The indoor range is located in Bldg. 1111 Forage Rd. at the Outdoor Equipment Center.  The outdoor range is located just inside the Binz Engleman Gate.  The indoor archery range includes an archery pro-shop that offers everything from bows, arrows and sights to releases and finger tabs, as well as 3D target rental.  Access to the archery ranges is granted through the purchase of a yearly, daily or lunchtime pass.  Special interest group archery passes are also available at a discount to those wishing to help in range operations, repairs and tournaments.

Salado Park: Salado Park is located adjacent to Salado Creek on W.W. White Road.  The park has 10 picnic areas available for rent at a cost of $15 (accommodating 25 people) and two large patio areas at a cost of $30 (for 50 or more individuals).  Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance.  The park also features a volleyball court and playground area.  Fishing in the creek is permissible as are the nature walks through the 13-acre park.

Salado Park Customer Usage Rules:

● The Military POC or Sponsor is responsible for the conduct of his/her guests. ●No swimming or boating allowed in Salado Creek
● Vehicles are to be parked in the parking lot, however vehicles may be driven into the park to unload your supplies, then returned to the lot.  

● Pets must be on a leash at all times.  Please clean up after your pet.
● No glass containers allowed in park.
● Park hours are from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.
● Reservation fee includes picnic tables and BBQ stand.
● Customers are responsible for removing all trash in their rented area.

● The Military Police can be contacted by calling their office at 221-2222. 

● There are no rain dates for the use of the park.  Customers canceling

within 72 hours will be charged a $10 cancellation fee.   

● Patrons will ensure no damage to the natural environment (trees, shrubs, etc.) is caused.

Information about the Volksmarch walking club: The Outdoor Equipment Center sponsors a Volksmarch Club.  The club participates in walks of various distances.  Year round you can walk the 10KM walk at Fort Sam Houston.  Other walks are the San Antonio Riverwalk, Honey Creek State National area and Guadalupe River State Park.  The American Volkssport Association (AVA), a member of the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV) sanctions these events.  For more information please visit our website at www.fortsamhoustonmwr.com

The Outdoor Equipment Center offers a wide variety of recreational and utility equipment for rent.  Items for rent include:

RV Park

The Recreational Vehicle Park provides a camping environment close to many of San Antonio’s tourist attractions.  For vacationers, cross-country travelers or a weekend away from the house, the Recreational Vehicle Park is the perfect place.

Reservations are recommended and can be made up to one year in advance.  Fifty-nine RV pull-through sites are available with individual water, electricity and sewage hook-ups, concrete patios with picnic tables and barbecue grills.  Hard core tent campers may enjoy the 12 tent pads available for use.  Tent sites have fire rings, concrete patios with picnic tables and individual parking spaces.  Restroom and shower facilities are on-site along with a coin-operated laundry facility. 

The clubhouse provides a small convenience store to purchase those forgotten items and a relaxing lounge.  A covered patio is also available for small get-togethers.  Other office services include internet, copies and fax.

Reservations and Fees: The Recreational Vehicle Park takes reservations up to 1 year in advance with fees at $16 daily, $96 weekly or $320 monthly for RV sites and $8 daily for tent sites.  Reservations may not exceed one month in duration.
